The Forge Has Had a Busy Week

without comments

The Forge Restaurant has had a busy celebrity week. First for Valentine’s Day the New York Giant’s own  Jason Pierre-Paul spent a very romantic evening at The Forge with his girlfriend sharing the special Valentine’s Day menu and champagne. Also seen at The Forge: Don Shula.

Last Friday Michael Jordan,  joined by his finacée Yvette Prieto celebrated his 49th birthday at The Forge. Thinking that this was going to be a quiet romantic dinner he was surprised later on in the evening by thirty of his friends including Ahmad Rashad and Derek Jeter. For the grand finale Paula Abdul sang for Michael Jordan Happy Birthday as the cake was being served. Another surprise followed,  when Ms. Abdul escorted Shareef Malnik, the owner of The Forge back to his table and also sang to him a Happy Birthday.

The Forge’s Shareef Malnik gives tips for New Year’s Eve

By Madeleine Marr12/28/2011

The Forge’s Shareef Malnik knows full well that New Year’s Eve can get a little dodgy. If you don’t do things right, you could end up with a nasty hangover. Or worse, a bad time. Here’s a few tips he’s learned over the years hanging out with celebs like Robert Downey Jr., John Stamos and the Hilton sisters.

Timing is everything: Get an early start on the night: the earlier you start, the better Chapter One of the New Year begins. Find one place that has everything you need. Great food, great music and great people.

Romantic entanglements? Bring a date only if the value of the date measures up to the tribute you are paying to the past year. Otherwise, stick with close friends. If spending NYE with family, choose a magical destination through the eyes of your children.

Three things you must carry: Good Cheer, Gratitude and the cell number of your Limo Driver.

Drink and be merry: Stick with a tight knit group of people who actually care about you before they start drinking. NYE is about indulging in a “degustation” of the finest foods you don’t usually allow yourself to enjoy every day… so, as a celebration and tribute to yourself, don’t hold back. However, avoid anything you see on Guy Fieri’s “Diners, Drive-ins and Dives.”

How much is too much? Think quality not quantity when deciding before and after dinner drinks. Best hangover remedy is hail Mary’s over bloody Marys. If you start with champagne then stay with champagne. Avoid tequila or you might not live to regret it.

Resolutions that stick: Pick something that you can do every day for just 10 minutess, but every single day no matter what. That’s how you build your resolution muscle with persistence.

Final note: Spontaneous, drunken and heat of passion resolutions don’t work. Whenever you committed to start your resolutions is when it starts, no wiggle room. “Spend your night the way you want to spend your upcoming year.”

SHAREEF AND YASEEN MALNIK -The Forge Master Mind’s Son

SHAREEF AND YASEEN MALNIK
Yaseen Malnik’s childhood was certainly not typical: He resided on Ocean Drive, watched his father, Shareef Malnik, race boats, and hobnobbed at The Forge with stars such as Michael Jackson and Madonna. That’s all par for the course for the married 24-year-old boxing promoter, who eschewed the restaurant business for the fight world. Shareef, whose father, Alvin Malnik, bought The Forge in 1968, also took a circuitous route as a youngster before taking over the venerable Miami Beach steak house in 1992. Since then, Shareef, 50, has made the eatery into celeb central, upped the gourmet quotient and reenergized the brand. He’s even opening a satellite location in Dubai next year. Yaseen, whose number-one contender is Francisco “El Gato” Figueroa, puts that same dedication into his boxing bouts. “I need to uphold a legacy of integrity, honor and loyalty, which my grandfather started and my father continued,” he notes. As for whether Yaseen will ever run Miami’s Best Restaurant, The Forge, Shareef says, “That’s up to him.”
